When planning a visit to Denmark, it may be useful to know when the Danes themselves take their holiday.
The school summer holiday starts reletively early in Denmark, but due to self-governing rules in the various municipalities, only the starting date is common to all schools. The school summer holiday is usually 7 or 8 weeks.
The school year 2008/2009
Summer holiday: 27th June 2009 -
The school year 2009/2010
Summer holiday: 25th June 2010 -
The school year 2010/2011
Summer holiday: 30th June 2011
In addition to the above holidays, the schools are also closed for an Easter holiday, a week’s winter holiday in February (week 7 or 8) and for an autumn break in mid-October (week 42).

Although there is no official ’industrial’ holiday period in Denmark, a relatively large proportion of Denmark’s industries and other companies traditionally close the first three weeks of July.
